As a result of a cooperation between three faculties and 16 industrial partners of the University of Sopron the Cooperative Research Centre started its operation on 1st January 2005.

With our research activity we try to find solutions to problems that should not be neglected in these days by any industrial undertaking with a responsible attitude of mind.

As an innovative-type venture we are open to solve tasks and problems requesting new ways of science and research.

The main direction of research “Environmental Performance” of the Cooperative Research Centre Non-profit Ltd. of the University of Sopron (SoE-KKK) is focusing in its activity on the development of processes, methods and techniques in monitoring, designing and controlling innovative applications that are suitable to improve the environmental performance at undertakings.

Monitoring of the topic, analysis of processes and development of methods have been carried out by the main direction of research in the frame of three sub-projects in recent years.

  • Factors and methods of improving the environmental performance;
  • Establishing the methods of the analysis of environmental damages and projecting the restoration;
  • Techniques of environment protection on the basis of engineering biology

Nowadays, our civilization produces that amount of waste and uses up the environmental resources,  that they are not able to renew themselves on a natural way any more. Thus, its territory is growing narrow, the living environment is getting endangered and also the essential conditions for the living of the next generations are at risk.

Target of the  main direction of research: elaboration of technologies of waste management and salvage that are able to handle the problems of solid and liquid community wastes arising from the everyday life on the most up-to-date way and with the minimum possible burden to the environment. This target is also involving the improvement of the environment-consciousness of the society.

Present topics of the research:

  • Sub-project purification of leechate-water
  • Sub-project lagooning, handling and monitoring of waste-water
  • Sub-project composting
  • Sub-project optimization of waste-collection routes

The extent of utilization of renewable fuels in Hungary is still rather small (ca. 4,5%), but it is projected to exceed 14% by 2020. An important factor of this considerable growth is the utilization of biomass (70%). Therefore, it is quite important to evaluate the results of recent space of time and their consequences, further, to look for new ways.

Present sub-projects of this main direction of research:

  • Establish and operate energetic-type plantations, harvest the grown ligno-cellulose and arrangements for its utilization;
  • Analysis of attributes of biomasses, seeking ways of compression as a part of the energetic utilization;
  • Development of fermentation technologies for biomasses, seeking new ways of the utilization.




It covers the development of environment-protective technologies and their practical application in order to restore balance in nature through human intervention.

Now we are working on the improvement of the ecological condition of protected areas that are also considered as important by the EU. Without an appropriate mood of treatment or even as a result of disturbance these areas have been covered by invasive plants or their natural condition has worsened through planting strange species of trees.

In our work to develop technologies we strive for improving the naturalness of these degraded areas and to reach a maintainable balance of the living world.
